Eurovision 2006
As long as our translator was screaming at Romanians living abroad to vote for Romania (extremely annoying!), why would we expect something else from others? There will always be “political” votes at ESC…
Finland deserved to win, no doubt about it. People still fail to notice that the name is EuroVISION. It’s a TV show, therefore some show value is necessary, it’s not just about the song! The Finns were the ONLY ones this year to come up with something worth watching too… Grotesque perhaps, but it was something.
As far as I’m concerned they didn’t even have to sing, would have won even if they’d have sat on stage in those costumes for those 3 minutes. (They didn’t sound bad at all anyway. And votes were guaranteed from Norway, Denmark, Sweden and Germany, since such music is popular there.)
They also won the semi by a landslide…
Russia… Meh, all former Soviet countries will vote for Russia, the performance is irrelevant.
Bosnia… 2 minutes of Julio Iglesias and 1 minute sounding like a manea (if anybody knows a proper translation for this term, let me know), a mix that made it a piece of crap as far as I’m concerned, but apparently well liked by those who enjoy both genres… (Surprisingly, Bosnia was above Russia in the semi, and by a large margin.)
Us… Good song (better than last year), extraordinary voice, but nothing to watch. 3rd in my classification…
Sweden… Good song and with a better pace than ours, extraordinary voice but once again not much to look at. 2nd in my classification.
As for Lithuania… EMBARRASSING! But look how many votes some humor brings…
I forecast an ESC 2007 where Finland, Germany, Norway, Sweden and Denmark will come with some “hard” songs because they saw it works and they’ve probably been meaning to for a long time…
Otherwise, hope the other countries will realize some show value is necessary… We earned a lot of points last year thanks to it for example…
My classification (actual place between parenthesis):
1 Finland (1)
2 Sweden (5)
3 Romania (4)
4 Denmark (18)
5 Germany (15)
6 Malta (24)
7 Russia (2)
8 Ukraine (7)
9 Macedonia (12)
10 Norway (14)
11 Ireland (10)
12 Switzerland (17)
13 Greece (9)
14 United Kingdom (19)
15 Turkey (11)
16 Moldova (20)
17 Bosnia (3)
18 Israel (23)
19 Armenia (8)
20 Spain (21)
21 Croatia (13)
22 Latvia (16)
23 Lithuania (6)
24 France (22)
Got the winners right… One place off for Romania, Ukraine, Ireland and Spain… Two places off for France… Three for Sweden and Macedonia…
At the other end, completely wrong (at least 10 places off) for Denmark, Germany, Malta, Bosnia, Armenia and Lithuania.
On another note, disappointed by the semis. Only 4 of the 10 that I wanted to qualify actually did. My list (ordered alphabetically, not ranked, and chosen almost exclusively for the songs, giving minimal importance to the show value): Belgium, Cyprus, Finland, Ireland, Monaco, Netherlands, Poland, Russia, Slovenia, Sweden. Only Finland, Ireland, Russia and Sweden made it through.
