The Fifth GOG.com Community Giveaway Starts… In a Badly Ailing Community

I need another quick non-personal post and did mention the bad news about the end of the fourth incarnation of The GOG.com Community Giveaway, so I might as well also mention the good news about the start of the fifth incarnation, now called The GOGmmunity Monthly Giveaway. The new manager isn’t Doc0075, as he backed out, but Lone_Scout, who jumped in and acted with surprising haste, so let’s hope that’s not because he’s rushing into it but quite the contrary, because he had already been thinking about it and preparing for a while, only holding off because Doc0075 had announced his intentions first. After all, such an endeavor implies a commitment, putting in quite a lot of time and taking on a significant workload, preferably for a longer period, so I hope he’s fully aware of what he signed up for and prepared for it.
Not that this does much to revive the community on the GOG.com forums, which has been and continues to be destroyed by the actions of those in charge of the store, or even of its parent corporation, completely changing the target audience, alienating or even more or less directly driving away and silencing the more discerning users and having staff moderators implement ever more troubling policies. In fact, just for those reasons, I still can’t in all honesty say that I truly still want something like this to continue on the GOG.com forums at all, but just like it was sad to see the fourth incarnation end in spite of that, it’s equally nice to see this fifth incarnation start. How long it’ll last and how much of an active community it’ll still have to bring together and reward, it remains to be seen.
