Filesharer.org
It’s nice to see solidarity, especially when it consists of people standing up against wrong norms, laws or regulations. This kind of solidarity is just what Filesharer.org should stand for, since its purpose is to support the people behind The Pirate Bay through the trial filed against them. Of course we can look at it from various angles and determine that it stands for other things as well, the most obvious example being a campaign tool for the Red Party from Norway, but that seems less relevant.
The one negative thing which would be relevant is whether it is or will become some sort of trap for the people who upload their pictures there. That does make me uneasy about joining it at the moment, but I have participated in relatively similar things in the past so I think I’ll decide soon enough to get involved this time as well. If only people would stop posting fake pictures and reducing the credibility of the whole thing…
From my point of view, this has next to nothing to do with The Pirate Bay itself. I for one don’t use that site and actually don’t use torrents at all. The real issue is that people need to do something and finally defeat these companies that keep using laws written by politicians who are on their payroll in order to preserve an outdated state of affairs from which they profit and everyone else loses.
I have previously written what I think about the issue of piracy, how it would seem more reasonable to sell such content and why, so I won’t repeat it now. Suffice to say that I hope that someday things will change, even if that would require an uphill struggle all the way. After all, nothing worthwhile’s ever easy… Unfortunately…
