Have It, Now What?

I’ve been spending a lot of time playing Morrowind these past few days (I know it’s old, but I didn’t get to it until now), but the overall feeling is along the lines of “Ok, I finally have a new computer after a year and a half of plans, delays, negotiations and annoyances, now what?”, just like I thought it would be after fucking up and her stopping talking to me once again.
The original plan was to get a new computer some eight months after being thrown back here, so I was trying (and failing the vast majority of the time, but it was something at least) to cling on to that so I’ll have something to look forward to. But then the delays and changes came and I pretty much got fucked over just like I should have known would happen, seeing as dad never keeps his word when it comes to money. After a few months like that the prospect became too slippery to even try clinging on to.
Then I bumped into her again, we talked, I learned that she’s playing World of Warcraft and that gaming may be a topic for conversation now. At some point I was seriously considering playing myself after I’d get the new computer, as much as I hate it, hoping she’ll play with me eventually and therefore have one more means of contact. I’ve even been looking for something to do for a few hours per week, as long as I’ll be able to do it from home, sitting in front of my computer, so I’ll earn what I’d need for the subscription and not have problems with dad on that matter. (This was partially an excuse, I was thinking she might think of me a little differently if I did do something…)
But then she grew distant, I cracked, she cut all contact and here I am. Finally having a new computer and wondering where to go from here. I wish, no, I need to share it with her somehow! Otherwise, instead of a reason to celebrate, it might become just one less thing that I could have clung on to, if it’s not that already…

As for the computer itself, it seems to have some problems. The system clock is running slowly, lost nearly four minutes in the first two and a half days, then when I tried to determine the difference more exactly I ended up with just over ten seconds per hour, which would mean just over four minutes per day, meaning the rate is accelerating. But it might be a software problem, because I rebooted and left it in BIOS for 40 minutes once to check and I’m not sure it lost any time. There seemed to be a difference of one second, but it’s a second, it might have taken that long for my eyes to focus properly, and either way it’s far less than the seven or eight seconds it was losing in the same amount of time while running programs.
I haven’t checked more exactly again today, but I have a feeling that it’s losing time even faster now, and that worries me. If it’s a software problem, I should look for updates and patches and see if that fixes it, but if it’s not then it means the battery is weak… In that case I’d need to send the motherboard back to be replaced and I really don’t feel like going through all that trouble right now if this is the only problem, but if it’s getting worse it might affect other things as well.
It already seems to be running slower, since on the second day it was completing two SETI@home work units in about one hour and 45 minutes and now it needs more than two hours for the same amount of work. Of course, there are also more programs installed and it’s normal for it to work noticeably slower while I’m playing, plus that some work units take longer than others, but that should still let it complete some of them in the same amount of time as it initially did. I need to keep an eye on this…
